Droid builder and performer Matt Denton, who worked on BB-8, B2-EMO and D-O among others, is the sixth guest announced for Look sir, droids! Echo Base Live, Europe’s premiere Star Wars collectors event, taking place in Redditch on October 10th, 2026.
Matt joins previously announced guests including droid performer Raymond Griffiths, droid performer Nathan Plant, droid operator Lynn Robertson Bruce, actress, creature & suit performer Stephanie Silva and droid builder and operator Lee Towersey.
Matt is a British animatronics engineer and puppeteer, known for creating iconic Star Wars droids and creature effects. He served as the Electronic Design & Development Supervisor for the Creature Shop in films and series like the sequel trilogy, Rogue One, Andor, and The Acolyte. Characters include:
* BB-8: Co-created with Josh Lee, Denton engineered this astromech droid, programming its software and control systems for its unique head movements and personality.
* Argus “Six Eyes” Panox: In Solo, Denton programmed the animatronic head’s gyroscopic rig and 50 servomotors, enabling its eyes to move organically.
* Babu Frik: For The Rise of Skywalker, Denton engineered the animatronics for this 9-inch Anzellan droidsmith, managing its facial expressions.
* B2-EMO: Denton supervised the electronic design and development of Cassian Andor’s droid in the Disney+ series Andor.
* D-O: Denton used his robotics expertise to build fully functional, real-world rolling replicas of the cone-headed droid from The Rise of Skywalker.
Away from Star Wars, Matt worked on the Harry Potter series, Jurassic World: Dominion, The Worlds End, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and Prometheus.
